June 2019 Gabon
As part of the 3 years education program defined with Junior Achievement Africa, Tomorrow Foundation had the great pleasure to support and take part again this year to the «Mini-Company» National Business Competition in Gabon.
Held on June 1st, 2019 in Libreville with the presence of Government representatives, teachers, families and other sponsors, the final round of the competition gathered 20 teams from 13 high schools. Each team presented the small company they launched and tried to develop between January and May 2019. The competition included oral presentation, written report and interactive presentation of the products on a stand.
As member of the jury, it was not easy for the Foundation to decide the ranking between candidates who all demonstrated ingenuity, perseverance and team spirit. To overcome the lack of financial resources and contribute to a better environment, most business projects used recycling, with kids spending hours in the city after school to collect plastic bottles, spoons, card boxes, cans or agricultural remains to make their products. All kids provided hard work; one team spent for example 4 hours of knitting on each dress for their project.
Energy, enthusiasm, love of their country, and willing to improve the living conditions for everyone impressed us all along this day. After lively discussions, the first prize was granted to the team Injektion, producing hands free mobile holders. They have several months now to improve their products and optimize their business plan before traveling to Ghana in December and represent Gabon for the regional competition final.
Following them, Mea Mini company producing wallets for ladies and Up’Cycle Art making rechargeable nightlights from plastic bottles and spoons won respectively the 2nd and 3rd prize, presented by the Foundation.
During its speech at the event, Tomorrow Foundation highlighted the necessity that all parties – economic players, politics, NGOs and the educational world – work together to offer new perspectives to the youth, promote entrepreneurship and creativity. Show them that oil industry or public administration are not the only or best career choices they have, and allow them to become the future African leaders.
